O, Hai.

Well hello there, and welcome to my new blog!  My name is Liz. Make yourself comfortable.

I already blog in a few places about my life as a stay-at-home mom of twin toddlers.  But recently I’ve felt the need to write more and connect more with the crafty, quilting community.  I didn’t want to muddle the focus of my original blog, so I decided to create a new space over here.

I learned to quilt in October of 2006, just taking a class at a great local quilt shop.  I made a quilt or two after that and enjoyed it, but was only so-so on the skill level.  I got pregnant and had dreams of making quilts for my new babies, as well as one as a wedding gift for my brother (whose nuptials I would not be attending, due to the aforementioned twin pregnancy).  Got the tops finished, but pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel took over and I couldn’t even hold the fabric anymore.  The carpal tunnel went away, but I was left with two all-consuming infants who left little time or energy for crafts.  I did eventually finish all three quilts by about the one-year anniversary of both the wedding and the birth of my kids.

Still, there were things holding me back, especially my total inability to figure out free-motion quilting.  I could put a quilt top together just fine, but was unsatisfied and uninspired by my walking-foot quilting options.  But a new machine, a repaired free-motion foot, and a touch of encouragement finally pushed me over the hump.  That, and a good mom friend of mine whose husband was building some doll beds…. she offered to trade a bed for some quilts to go on it!  Good deal!

The fun (and speed) of making doll quilts was the impetus to open my own Etsy shop.  I have some doll-sized quilts for sale, and take custom orders for quilts up to twin-sized.  (Anything larger my sewing machine just can’t really handle.)

I’ve still got a ton to learn.  My stippling is improving, but the technique still needs a lot of work. I’m still learning the lingo, and am in awe of the creative vision of several quilters whose blogs I’ve started following (see blogroll).  But I’m here, and I hope this turns into a lifetime love.

    Hey Liz,

love the new blog. What kind of machine are you using?

I’m so glad to see you started this site. When you would post stuff on Goddess about sewing I always wanted to know more but felt like it would bore other readers if it got turned into a sewing blog.

I was going to ask the same as Beth, what type of machine?

I have been toying making quilts for my boys but chicken out every time I think about starting. I guess I should ask for quilting lessons for mother’s day.

You are my hero, I have two domains (one for crafting and one for twin blogging) but they have under 10 posts combined and I’ve had them each for over a year. I guess blogging isn’t my thing.

I look forward to future posts!
