I haven’t sat down at my sewing machine in four weeks. Nearly a month.
To be fair, I was out of town for three of the past four weeks. A little over two weeks doing the insane family-visit thing in the Midwest. Home for four days, away for four more in New York for BlogHer (which was a blast).
But now that I’m back, I can’t quite seem to find my sewing mojo. It’s not that I’ve lost interest in quilts. There are still more in my head than I may ever be able to make. But maybe that’s part of the problem. I see my literal and virtual to-do lists, I look at my drawers of stash fabric and bins of scraps, and I feel overwhelmed.
In addition, I’m going through some absolutely bone-crushing exhaustion. Some of it is residual tiredness from travel. Plus the chaos of re-entry into my life, where I feel out of practice with the day-to-day requirements of activities with the kids and all of the miscellaneous things you need to do to keep the house running (laundry? ack!). Add to that the old “dog days” of summer… while we blessedly just had central air conditioning installed, and I absolutely adore it and can’t believe it took us so long to do, I still think the heat takes its toll on me.
At any rate, I’ll certainly keep you posted when I find my sewing mojo again. If you’ve seen it, please send it back home where it belongs.
Anyone else dragging as summer starts to wind down?

I’m still waiting to hear what happened to your new sewing machine. Can you let me know?

It’s probably with mine! I know what you’re feeling just trying to get back into real life after travel – post travel depression I call it. And the end of summer heat + wrap up before school starts seems to take all the remaining energy!
After such a horrible winter, I thought I would never want to see the end of summer. But I’m already looking forward to cool nights and enjoying sewing again!

You’re definitely not alone. The heat zaps me, and we only have 2 air conditioned rooms in our house. It’s been 90 about 5 days out of 7 for the last month and a half, and all I want to do when I’m home is either zone in front of the TV or find the coolest place in the house and read. Occasionally I manage to guilt myself into piecing some hexagons. I haven’t done more sewing than a bee block in…two weeks? Sick.

Oh yeah, I’m widja. But I found out part of my problem was my thyroid, have you had that checked? xoxo Good luck! It’s cooling off here, finally. (Maine)
Have you tried anything new, besides quilting? Sometimes ‘cheating’ on quilting can make you yearn for it even more. (that only works with crafting!!!) My friend’s cure for the ‘too much fabric’ problem is to beg me to take some home, lol.

me, me, me! i know how you feel! i have been sewing and such, but the heat (and humidity) is sucking the life out of me. also, sopping up buckets of rain that leaked into my basement last night *this morning, actually* doesn’t help either. my fabric stash is overwhelming me in a serious way. i know, what a problem to have! but some days it really does feel like a problem! i just knit a cute little softie and that seems to have helped a bit.
hang in there…your mojo will return. it always does.

liz – hope you’ve found your mojo by now. i’m a friend of mallory’s – we met at her shower and both made quilts for cella – and i’ve been following your blog since. i was working on my son’s big bed quilt while you were doing TWO! i just finished it and posted it to my blog. can’t find the time to quilt enough to devote a whole blog to it…. next on my list is the double hourglass you did for a wallhanging for my mom. see, i need inspiration from you!
